Gaziev, Farkhod ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (advisor) ; Váška, Jan (referee)
Since its inclusion in the Copenhagen criteria, the protection of minority rights has been an important political condition set by the European Union (EU) for candidate states. This thesis examines the effectiveness of EU conditionality on the Baltic States of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to change their ethnic policies and its affect on the Russian-speaking minority of the states. The main argument of this thesis is that the European accession process has promoted minority rights in the three Baltic states, following which the Russian-speaking minority in the Baltic States have been partially integrated. However, the domestic opposition and the potential threat from Russia hindered EU's efforts to influence outcomes of the domestic policies.

Sedláčková, Martina ; Kasáková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Klípa, Ondřej (referee)
The year 2013 is devoted to the idea of citizenship of the European Union with an emphasis on a reflection of its basement and meaning. The thesis The Citizenship of the EU and the Roma as its holders therefore explores a presumption of equality of the citizens that follows the definition of the citizenship on the examples connected to the Roma ethnic minority. Firstly, the thesis focuses on the citizenship in general and from the theoretical point of view. It analyses the definition of the citizenship of the EU, its relation to a national citizenship of the Member states, its development, and the rights of the citizens. In addition to this it also presents a professional debate analysing a concept of the European citizenship. The second part of this work is dedicated to the Roma directly. It shows the bonds of the Roma towards Europe through the history and the territory. More importantly it presents two cases that indicate a limitation of the EU citizenship rights for the Roma people. The first one discovers a structural discrimination of the citizens of the EU who do not have a residence in the Member state. This is one of the consequences of their nomadic way of life still preferred by some the Roma people. Subsequently, the second case analyses a controversial event of an expulsion of the Roma...

Řepa, Karel ; Müller, Karel (advisor) ; Lisa, Aleš (referee)
The main subject of this thesis is the activism of the LGBT community in the Czech Republic after 1989. The first goal is to analyse the living conditions of homosexuals in the Czech Republic, the possibilities for achieving greater rights, and the forms of activism which have helped to lead to the current situation. The second goal is to analyse a particular form of activism -- the street marches and public gatherings commonly known as 'Gay Prides'. In the second chapter I will analyse the living conditions of homosexuals in the Czech Republic, the possibilities for achieving greater rights, and the forms of activism which have helped to lead to the current situation from the institutional, legislative and personal perspective and I will also consider public opinion on the rights of sexual minorities. The third chapter is about the street marches that have taken place in the Czech Republic and here I will especially focus on the Gay Pride called 'Queer Parade 2008' that took place in 2008 in Brno. This Pride can be considered to be the first ever Pride in the Czech Republic. In the last part of this thesis I will introduce the results of the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the Czech printed media's response to the Queer Parade 2008.

Lackovičová, Simona ; Zemanová, Štěpánka (advisor) ; Trávníčková, Zuzana (referee)
"The Roma Problem"is one of the most serious social problems in Slovakia. Prejudices, bad relationships between non-Roma majority and Roma minority, as well as racism, Roma rights violations are the most frequently cited issues, Slovakia is criticized for. The Government of the Slovak Republic is aware of all reasons for the criticism by international organizations or non-governmental organizations, and that is why "The Roma Problem" solution has been its priority for a long time. The Slovak Republic has already accepted lots of international commitments concerning protection of minority rights (including Roma rights) that is why I have decided to find out if Slovakia meets all its commitments. My goal is to analyse if international commitments and recommendations related to human rights affect real protection of minority rights in Slovakia. I would like to evaluate if the criticism by the international organizations is adequate and find some reasons for the criticism. Last but not least I would like to propose several recommendations based on the analyses of non- governmental organizations.
